Renting
a Home on Kauai
If you are seeking long term rental accommodations, two great
resources are the
Garden Island Newspaper classifieds and
Craigslist. You are invited to check the list of rental
properties below to determine current availability status.
Links to important information
for landlords and tenants are also provided below for your
convenience.
Another idea for you--buy instead of rent
You may wish to consider buying instead of renting if your Hawaii
housing needs are long term. Did you know that in Hawaii, long term
rents are taxed at 4% just like milk & bread, and all other goods &
services? This fact is sometimes obscured when the tax is
hidden within the rental amount instead of being broken out separately.
If it's a short term rental, this tax leaps to over 13%! In contrast, mortgage payments are not taxed and usually
provides a healthy tax deduction instead.
Home ownership has historically been a road
to financial security for those willing to accept the additional
responsibility that comes with it. There are often substantial tax
savings to help offset any increase in monthly payments--consult your
tax adviser to see how this may apply to you. If this option
is of interest to you, contact me for assistance. I will refer you
to professionals who can help you determine how much you can comfortably afford and
will work with you directly in finding the right home for you.
